Getting Rid of Lawn Grubs
Lawn grubs consume grass roots and can cause serious damage to your lawn. Contacting your lawn suppliers about pest removal and prevention products could inform you about the most effective ways to remove these unwanted intruders from your garden.
Identifying Lawn Grubs
These persistent grubs are most easily spotted by the damage they cause, resulting in irregular brown patches across a lawn, typically in the late summer or early autumn. To see the grubs themselves, digging up brown patches should reveal the extent of their activity. As well as damaging your lawn, these beetle grubs also encourage other pests into your garden, which feed on them.
Natural Treatments
Lawn grubs are easiest to remove during the late summer and autumn, when they are closer to the lawn surface and still small. Standard insecticide products are not likely to be as effective if applied in the spring, due to the larger size of the grubs and the tendency for rain to wash these substances away. If you prefer to use natural turf care products, beneficial milky spores, the botanical pesticide neem oil and soil-dwelling nematode worms are available from turf suppliers, none of which will cause damage to your turf. For a chemical treatment, products such as Dylox, Merit and Mach-2 can be effective.
